Dear Girl Geeks,
I’m arranging a mini hackathon at Hackeriet with the topic Rapid Game Development. Since no coding is required, I thought even some not-so-techy girl geeks might be interested. I’m running this mini hackathon as part of a scientific evaluation about location-based mobile games created with an editor.
We’re going to create location-based mobile games with the editor ActionBound. I’ll take you through the whole process of game creation in fast-forward. You can work on your own or in small groups where you will develop your game idea and implement it using the editor, so no coding.
In the second part (day 2 &3) we’re going to play these games. Each player is asked to fill out a questionnaire after each game, to find out how much fun the game was. The anonymised results of the survey will be used in my thesis. The anonymised data will be publicly available, unless the game authors object.
day 1, Sat 20th June, 11:00-16:30:
- develop a game idea for a location-based mobile game
- use of the game editor ActionBound to implement the game
day 2 & 3, Sun 21st June and/or Sat 27th June, 13:00-17:00
Is this game fun? Testing location-based mobile games
- run a user test for your game
- participate in user tests for others’ games
You can join all three days or just any of them. On day 2 and 3 you can just drop in any time between 13:00 and 17:00, you don’t need to be there the whole time.
Hackeriet, Hausmannsgate 34, Oslo
- Laptop (only day 1)
- SmartPhone or Tablet (capable of running iOS or Android apps)
- no previous knowledge required
- as these are outdoor games, dress appropriately for the weather (day 2 & 3)
If you have a Meetup account, please RSVP there, so I’ll have an idea about how many will be there.
